Just a note to add about this show. There were 6 categories with 3 prizes in each category. All of the winning quilts were quilted by hand, with the exception of two – one wallhanging and one with hand-turned applique bed quilt. The Amish are pretty proud of their hand quilting – as they should be – but they do favor traditional piecing and quilting. My husband was talking to one of the Amish men there that he knew from work and when he mentioned that my quilt had won a 1st place ribbon in the Decatur Quilt Fest this year, his response was ‘they have a lot of amateurs entered in that show”. !!! I don’t think the gals in Decatur would appreciate hearing that!
